About the role:
Volunteers will assist with all tasks pertaining to bocce competition. Volunteers will officiate games, keep score, answer team member and coach questions, ensure teams are present and ready when it is their competition time, assist in bringing scores to the awards podium, reset courts after competitions are over and ensure the bocce competition runs smoothly. After the Bocce Tournament has concluded volunteers will help to clean up the Bocce area and courts (courts are made of plastic rain gutters and very light). There will be Special Olympics representative available at bocce to answer any questions and give direction to all volunteers.
About the event:
Special Olympics Maine’s State Summer Games is our largest event of the year. Held at The University of Maine in Orono the event draws thousands of athletes, coaches, partners, spectators and volunteers. State Summer Games is over Friday, June 6 - Sunday, June 8 and has volunteer opportunities from morning till night! Many teams consisting of athletes and coaches stay the weekend in the dorms. Athletes participate in bocce and athletics (track and field) competitions. There are numerous special events like opening ceremonies, the parade of athletes, a dance, athlete village and more. It takes a village to seamlessly run this incredible event and we hope you’ll help to make 2025 State Summer Games our best event yet!
